If you ask me that who was the best inventor from the past?? not only me there are numbers of people who will agree that no one can beat Nikola Tesla in his extraordinary inventions.this man has a great contribution to the development of electricity generation and transmission. A time when Thomas Edison was transmitting his D.C energy at sky level cost this man came with his idea of A.C motor and A.C current generation. he modified Edison D.C motors to A.C motors and now it was possible that every single person gets energy.his transformers also make it possible to transmit electrical energy to far distances.
I can't mention his all inventions in one article because they never end.so in this article we will get to know his one major invention and that is the tesla coil. I know you all are familiar with design, principle, and working of tesla coil.but my friends who don't know a single thing about this I make sure it becomes easy to understand it.
to understand the design and working of tesla coil you have to first understand how resonant transformer works.
it's not ordinary because it's Resonating
resonating or resonant transformer is a special type of ordinary device.in this, both primary and secondary
coils have a capacitor across it. which results in LC resonating circuit.
this type of transformer can temporarily store energy and also work at high frequencies at which ordinary transformer can't work because they will generate high eddy currents.
in the tesla coil resonant circuit, only the primary coil contains capacitor(C1) and secondary contains virtual or unwanted capacitance known as stray capacitance[C2](sum of stray capacitance of secondary coil inductor and capacitance between metal toroid connected to high voltage). the value of C2 is fixed so the value of C1 is chosen in this way primary and secondary each resonant at the same resonance frequency which makes the transformer efficient.

Transformer T charges the capacitor C1 to high voltage. when the voltage across the capacitor reaches the breakdown voltage of spark gap SG(voltage at which electrons can jump through the gap) spark is created at SG capacitor start to pushing current through L1 which causes LC oscillation. As oscillating magnetic fields links with L2 due to more turns and less capacitance in secondary, there is the very high voltage as the energy of C1 loses SG also turns off and the procedure repeats and C1 again charged through supply transformer T
these types of tesla coils don't give shock but cause severe burns due to conductor skin effect(due to high frequencies the electric charges are accumulated at the outer surface of a conductor)
I personally not want you to make these types of circuits at home because these can cause severe injuries or eventually death.
if you want to make a tesla coil you can use a slayer circuit to make a puny version.
